In the Fall of 2004 a parent of a son with a developmental disability realized that her son needed and wanted to continue his baseball career. Realizing that he would be growing out of the current league with which he was participating, she organized a group of non-profit agencies that included, Heritage Centers, Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled, Aspire of WNY, and Southeast Works to set up a league among agencies.

Through a strong effort, the agencies organized and started "Touching Bases", which held the inaugural season in the summer of 2005.

The Erie County Chapter of "Touching Bases" was incorporated in the summer of 2006, and has received designation as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit.
